Where the first light of dawn paints the wetlands in gold, Mangalajodi unfolds as one of India’s most extraordinary birding destinations, on the northern fringe of Chilika Lake—Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon.

Every winter, thousands of migratory birds from Central Asia, Europe, and Siberia transform these marshes into a living spectacle. Majestic raptors to countless ducks, waders, and herons, the wetlands support over 300 species of birds.

Once threatened by poaching, Mangalajodi has become a global conservation success story, where former hunters now protect the very wildlife they once pursued. A silent boat ride through its misty channels offers one of the most intimate and unforgettable wildlife experiences in India.
